Experience a world of traditional handcraft and Scandinavian quality that last a lifetime. In Belid we connect with our Nordic heritage to pass on the light from Varberg, since 1969. By combining honesty and responsibility towards our surroundings we manufacture lighting of the highest quality and functionality.
In Varberg, on the Swedish west coast, where salty waters meet the majestic woodland Belid has manufactured Swedish lighting for decades. Traditional craftsmanship from the art of preparing in metal gives a pride to every coworker and is part of daily business. Today Belid is one of the leading lighting suppliers in the Nordic region and employs 165 dedicated coworkers.
At Belid we work closely with coworkers, customers and partners. In the close cooperation the development of the product, from design to finished luminaire becomes visible and easy to follow. This is a process that allows us to move forward and keeps the knowledge and experience within the company. The close cooperation in combination with atomized production creates the best conditions to meet market demands.

The Story of Herstal Lighting
Two entrepreneurs with a desire to fascinate people in their homes
In 1987, Martin Herstal moved to Odense, Denmark, where he and his future wife, Lotte, took over a small lamp shop on Vesterbro. Martin and Lotte Herstal were both in their early twenties when they sold lamps and guided customers in the small shop. In the late 80’s, the dream came true as the young couple presented a line of products with focus on halogen lighting in an elegant and simple design. The customers asked for lamps in high quality along with guidance on illumination. The recognizable and characteristic Herstal universe was created from the idea of light as center.
Fascinating lamps with luminaire focus in great quality
Herstal lamp design had become a desirable brand. Through the 90´s, more shops wished to become distributors and the most exquisite ones were chosen. Alongside distributors, the market penetration was supplemented with advertise-ment in exclusive interior magazines. In 1996 and 1997 the lamps were sold in Norway, Sweden and Germany as well. 10 years had passed since the beginning and Herstal were now known for its characteristic design and values of an elegant and functional interior lighting.
Experimenting with light and design - An eternal passion for lamps and development
During the 90´s, the wire systems, tracks with halogen spots and colored glass defined Herstal lamps. With the same spirit, focus and know-how, Herstal moved into the new millennium, proving better technology and a contemporary design. White glass and steel in a minimalistic and classic universe led Herstal to the top. Touch-systems, new designs and details supported the history of Herstal. In 2000, the new Herstal domicile in Odense became the focal point for more than 100 employees. A young couple began their journey with great ambitions and is still managing the company today, which has turned from a small lamp shop into a large company never forgetting their values.
Quality and design lighting – The values of the Herstal family
In 2008, Herstal presented a line of new, innovative lamp designs and LED technology. At the same time, Herstal took over the Swedish lighting company Belid, which has produced quality luminaires since 1969. Herstal wanted to enhance their know-how of interior lighting, the development of technology and keep their focus on making the lighting technology be the center of the development and design.
Herstal has existed for many years with the same proud family traditions. This is a result of our many years of experience with lighting and design. The Herstal lighting philosophy is to guarantee the right light and contemporary technology in the characteristic and elegant Herstal design.
